ARE DOULAS CURRENTLY ALLOWED IN THE HOSPITAL?
The big question, can my Doula support me in the Hospital or Birth Center?
The short answer is, maybe...?
The Austin birth community has been getting some conflicting information on which hospitals and birthing places will allow doula support and which ones will not. It's changing constantly, flip-flopping back and forth. We are fortunate to have some internal contacts, but even with that our heads are spinning. Here is our Captain's Log:
*Some hospitals are enforcing COVID-19 testing upon check-in. If a client tests positive the Doula may choose to leave to prevent further exposure and potential spread
ST. DAVIDS - NORTH (NAMC): Doulas allowed, ATX Doulas last supported a client on May 16, 2020
ST. DAVIDS - MAIN: Doulas allowed. ATX Doulas last supported a client on May 5, 2020. They are taking temperatures and checking credentials.
ST. DAVIDS - SOUTH: Testing all laboring people at check-in for COVID-19. ATX Doulas last supported a client on May 23, 2020
ST. DAVIDS - GEORGETOWN: Partner only. We have not had the opportunity to try since COVID-19 pandemic hit Austin
AUSTIN AREA BIRTH CENTER - NORTH: Doulas allowed
AUSTIN AREA BIRTH CENTER - SOUTH: Doulas allowed
NATURAL BEGINNINGS BIRTH CENTER: Doulas allowed
CENTRAL TEXAS BIRTH CENTER: Doulas allowed
BEAUTIFUL BEGINNINGS BIRTH CENTER: Doulas allowed
BIRTHWISE BIRTH CENTER: Doulas allowed that have not attended a hospital within two weeks
SETON - CENTRAL: We are currently offering Virtual Support for clients delivering at Seton. Seton policy of one support person only.
SETON - NW: Partner only. We have not had the opportunity to try since COVID-19 pandemic hit Austin
