COVID-19: ALTERATIONS TO BIRTH DOULA PACKAGE

*Some hospitals are enforcing COVID-19 testing upon check-in. If a client tests positive the Doula may choose to leave to prevent further exposure and potential spread

WHAT DOULA SUPPORT LOOKS LIKE DURING THIS PERIOD

First and foremost we want to remind you to advocate for yourself and one another, we've got your back too! Below is what has been working and what we recommend:

SPONTANEOUS LABOR

  1. Call us if you think you are in labor!

  2. We will triage you as before... Your Doula will make a plan to meet at home. Staying home as long as possible seems even more necessary now for health reasons and supplies. Hospitals and birth centers are needing to preserve as much as possible.

  3. When it's time for y'all to head to the Hospital/Birth Center, your Doula will follow behind.

  4. Assume your Doula will be allowed in, but be prepared to advocate, advocate, advocate.

    • For Hospital births we are asking ALL clients to please have the following

      1. Printed copy of ATX Doulas contract - aka your Birth Client Needs Assessment​

      2. Printed copy of your Birth Plan/Preference. (We are hearing that Nitrous may not be an option currently)

    • Doulas will have with them​​

      1. Letter stating they are a Contractor with ATX Doulas​

      2. Proof of Certification or Professional Doula status

      3. Identification

 

INDUCTION

  1. A Doula will check in with you the day(s) leading up, talk about options and what your OB is recommending. You can find induction information here: https://www.atxdoulas.com/induction

  2. Keep us informed and updated during the early stages of labor.

  3. Once it's time for support, your Doula will head to you.

  4. Assume your Doula will be allowed in, but be prepared to advocate, advocate, advocate.

    • Please have the following

LABOR SUPPORT PACKAGES

We know that there maybe times that the Doula is not able to get into the hospital with you. Knowing this, we are offering the alteration to your Birth Package during the COVID-19 pandemic only. The following includes the labor portion only and not classes, birth plan or post-birth sessions. The change in your package may ONLY be made in labor, depending on circumstances at the time, or 39+ weeks pregnant.

 

The following options are not ideal, they are made out of us adjusting to what we have to work with and being flexible while maintaining our mission to support you. As Doula's even if we cannot be there for physical support we can still offer emotional and informational support. If your doula is unable to get into the hospital we will convert your package in the following way:

IN-HOME ONLY DOULA SUPPORT

*Time starts 30 min after client asks for in-person support

  • 24/7 on-call availability

  • Hands on explanation, coaching and suggestions

  • Real-time teaching partners the most effect techniques and take with them to to the hospital

  • Your doula will be able to offer personalized information based on your unique labor

  • Continued phone support after you head to the hospital

$500 - up to five hours of in-person support plus continued virtual support for duration of labor

$650 - more than five hours of in-person support plus continued virtual support for duration of labor

 

VIRTUAL/PHONE/VIDEO SUPPORT

This package is only available for times when in-person support is not possible due to COVID-19 pandemic. It will include:

  1. Birth Plan session

  2. A mix and match of phone and/or video support offering professional, knowledge of and suggestions for the following and more:

  • Comfort measures

  • Nutrition/hydration

  • Position suggestions, movement

  • Explanation of stage of labor, what to expect and how to cope

  • How to be the best support partner

$425 - session plus virtual support through labor, delivery and first latch

*Please "tip" your doula or pay the full amount if that is possible, we're all trying to keep the economy healthy too!
