What is a doula? A doula is someone that supports individuals physically, informationally and emotionally through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

We're so excited to announce that we are offering an extended, hybrid training made by doulas, for doulas! Ignite your passion for birth and postpartum work through our academy!

This is not a hit the ground running, weekend long doula training. Our goal is to dive deep into the topics of birth and postpartum work while also sharing our 19 years of combined experience in order to prepare the new generation of doulas for the challenges they will face in their careers. The co-owners of ATX Doulas created an extended 10 week birth and postpartum doula training for folks looking for an in-depth, mentor driven, collaborative experience with your training cohort.

Birth & Postpartum Program Overview:

10 week hybrid certification program (lessons in person & over zoom)
Live educator support from the 3 co-owners and experienced doulas of ATX Doulas
Hands-on, simulation style training with resources
Ongoing mentorship with your class cohort from the educators for the first year of your training through our Bonfire community
Doula workbook that coincides with your training resources
Cost = $1500 (deposit of $500 due at registration)

Postpartum Program Overview:

All support and resources in the Birth & Postpartum program
4 week hybrid certification program (lessons in person & over zoom)
Cost = $700 (deposit of $500 due at registration)

Mission

Ignite Doula Academy's mission is to provide in-depth training for the next generation of doulas utilizing real world experiences such that they are best equipped to begin their career as a doula.

Reproductive Rights are Human Rights - participants in our program will acknowledge pregnancy, birth and postpartum as a reproductive justice issue. Participants in our program will do the work to dismantle systemic racism and classism to improve maternity care for all.
Bodily Autonomy - participants will commit to respecting individuals right to autonomy over their own bodies and self-determination. Abortion is healthcare.
Evidence Based Care - participants in our program will provide information and care that is evidence based so that their clients can make the most informed decisions about the care they receive.
Informed Consent - participants in our program will ensure that their clients are working alongside their trusted healthcare provider to fully understand the benefits, risks, and alternatives related to decisions they make during their pregnancy, birth and postpartum period and giving informed consent for the support they receive.
Advocacy - participants in our program will, to the best of their ability, advocate for their client's preferences and rights. They will provide resources when necessary to ensure a positive, empowering birth and postpartum experience.
Professionalism - participants in our program will hold themselves to a high standard of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality. They will not disclose client personal information, avoid conflicts of interest, and ensure their client transactions are ethical. Participants will operate within a doula's scope of practice and refer clients to appropriate resources and specialists when necessary.

What can I expect from Ignite Doula Academy's certification? - You will receive an in depth certification, taught by 3 professional doulas that have been in this business for 19 years collectively. We view this work as a profession and want to pass on our knowledge to the next generation of doulas. - Each week will be taught by one of the seasoned doulas and co-owners of ATX Doulas with the goal to bring you lived experience and expertise to give you the best foundation for your doula practice as possible. - Along with the training program, you'll receive a doula handbook which dives deeper into the curriculum and highlights the importance of each topic each week. - You'll also receive access to our Bonfire community program which will be a year long mentorship from the co-owners. You'll have access to ask questions while out in the field and receive feedback, resources and evidence based knowledge that will help you support your clients within the first year of your doula work.

What content does the training include?

What are the requirements to become certified?

How long does it take to become certified? - It varies - once you've completed the training you can complete the certification as soon as you're able. We see some folks complete it within 3 months and others take the full year to complete it.

What is the Bonfire program? - The Bonfire program will give you access to a year long mentorship from the co-owners. You'll have access to ask questions while out in the field and receive feedback, resources and evidence based knowledge that will help you support your clients within the first year of your doula work. You'll also be connected with your fellow doulas that you trained with to continue to stay connected and share knowledge.

What happens if I take a training but don’t certify? - If you don't complete your certification within the year deadline, reach out to us and we'll work with you. - Also know that certification isn't required to be a doula. We are not healthcare providers and licensure/certification isn't regulated like other industries (however we're seeing insurance companies ask for this more and more lately).
